Beaufort_County_LID_Training_Event_Flyer

Beaufort County is inviting the public to come out for a “Low Impact Development Training” event on Thursday, Sept. 18

The purpose of this event is to provide training to county staff, developers, and the general public on Low Impact Development (LID) practices and to visit example projects at Beaufort County Community College. LID is a design approach that uses natural and engineered infiltration and storage techniques to control stormwater on-site. LID is used to counteract the impacts of development on a property. These techniques are effective at reducing flooding and improving water quality in communities.

Residents will be able to learn about:

Why LID is important for flood resilience and water quality

LID best practices and techniques

Projects that can be implemented by homeowners and developers

The 3 LID projects at Beaufort County Community College: constructed wetland (funded by NC Environmental Enhancement Grant), permeable pavement parking lot, and rain garden (funded by NC Resilient Coastal Communities Program).

This event will run from 8:30-10 a.m. at Beaufort County Community College, in Building 10's multipurpose room.

More information on the NC Resilient Coastal Communities Program is available at https://www.deq.nc.gov/about/divisions/division-coastal-management/coastal-resiliency/rccp-overview

More information on the NC Environmental Enhancement Grant is available at https://ncdoj.gov/protecting-the-environment/eeg/
